Menno is a member of the boy’s choir of Corsica. Every Monday night they practice Corsican folksongs at the local inn. A couple of times a year they perform at the island festivities dressed up in their local costumes.

Menno loves to read stories about pirates and highwaymen. When he is not playing or swimming you can find him with a book on a towel on the beach.

Menno is a real water devil and in the summer you can find him on the beach with his friends. He loves anything that involves water: swimming, canoeing, sailing, surfing; you name it, he does it!

Menno doesn’t like carrots at all! When his mother makes carrot cake or carrot stew he secretly feeds it to the dog!

Menno doesn’t like to mow the lawn. Since he is the only man in the family he has to do the garden. Every Saturday, he gets up very early so he is finished by nine o’clock. “Just to get it over with”, he says to his friends when they ask him why he is gardening so early in the morning.

In the summertime his family often goes into the mountains for a picnic and a barbecue. They usually go together with other families from the village. They eat, drink, play ball games and sing songs about brave Corsican’s in rough seas. Menno really enjoys these afternoons and wishes they would do this everyday. “Then it wouldn’t be so much fun anymore”, his mother said to him when he asked if they could go more often.
